American Farm Land Trust News

Dear Patick,
Last week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s annual Ag Outlook Forum brought together the voices of farmers and ranchers, government and agricultural leaders to discuss the economic landscape of agriculture.

And the key take-away, for me, came by way of the USDA’s chief economist’s overview on the current strength of our nation’s farm economy. Joseph Glauber’s analysis reminded me of the important link between healthy rural economies and the need for healthy farmland to sustainably meet the growing demand for food.

Donate today to help ensure a sustainable future for agriculture, and for us all!
Right now, our farm economy is vigorous and healthy. The bright outlook for U.S. agricultural exports in 2011 is predicted to reach a record high. This demand for food grown in American soil could positively impact the economies of rural communities. But it also brings its challenges. If world demand grows, it means more acres growing food will be needed at a time when America has been losing more than an acre of farm and ranch land every minute.
The Ag Outlook Forum laid out the facts and predictions for the year that will help guide the decision-making of farmers, ranchers and agricultural leaders. Taking this knowledge and applying it in measurable ways as we move forward requires a broader movement together. And that means an even greater need for American Farmland Trust’s role as the vital link among farmers, conservationists and policy-makers. We are working to protect the land that will be needed to meet an increasing demand for food while at the same time keeping our soil healthy and drinking water clean. But it can’t be done without your help.
Please donate today to support our work in advancing policies and programs that protect our nation’s farm and ranch lands and ensure a sustainable future for agriculture, and for us all.
Sincerely,
